  • Notorious

    Type Micah
    21 Nov 2009 | 1:00 pm
Notorious by Brooklyn Sky is a mash-up and a tribute two 20th century icons: Alfred Hitchcock (and, more specifically, his film: Notorious…) and Christopher Wallace aka Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls. I am a huge fan of both. Hitchcock’s iconic silhouette / logo was adapted to match Biggie’s profile; the likeness is unmistakable. Let’s hope this tee, priced at $32, will be available for purchase on Brooklyn Sky’s website soon.

    Type Micah
    19 Nov 2009 | 9:22 pm
The Party Werewolf T-shirt was designed by Dan Redding of Magnetic State. As the shirt’s name indicates, it showcases a werewolf that likes to party. And really: what werewolf doesn’t? For some reason, though, I usually associate beer [as opposed to balloons] with party werewolves…but that’s exactly what makes this tee special. Plus, 100% of its profits go toward the World Wildlife Fund. You can buy this tee for just $13.99. Oh and be sure to check out the fantastically satirical SaveTheWerewolves.com.

When is the last time you heard someone mention the Ultimate Warrior? Arguably one of the best wrestlers from the 80's and 90's, the Warrior was most famous for his unbelievable energy and incoherent interviews. I hadn't thought about him in a long time until I saw this recent design by Fat Mouse on Emptees:Thanks to good ol' YouTube I was taken back to my childhood and view some more of those bumbling rants aimed towards Hulk Hogan and other wrestlers. The best one I found was an interview with Arsenio Hall where it appears Arsenio is visibly apprehensive towards the Warrior. This guy had to…

Little to say about this shirt - other than the simple fact that I spent roughly 3 years of my childhood drawing nothing but atari symbols. “everyone draw an animal from the zoo children” - wait half an hour - “oh that’s a nice atari logo with a monkey swinging from it”. So this is what I’d have drawn as a memory from our school trip to paris - had we been on a school trip to paris.

The second is their Wanda shirt. Linty Fresh has continued to release new t-shirts with the founder in China. The latest is called “Tired of the City” and it goes beautifully with the rest of the brand. As a special bonus in typical Linty Fresh style, it comes complete with a collector’s edition card of a poem to match. The design is done on a bright yellow shirt and features some pretty interested plumbing. A little closer look reveals the Linty Fresh name in that plumbing. Once again we see Linty Fresh creatively and subtly working their brand name into the artwork. This is a pretty clever way to increase…

    21 Nov 2009 | 10:29 am
One of my favorite things about working here at Spreadshirt and about t-shirts in general are the stories behind the shirts.  Most t-shirts come with a story - maybe it is from a favorite place or it is a favorite color.  Maybe the shirt reminds you of a favorite event or concert.  Some times it is a little weird but when I can I like to ask people about their t-shirts and find out more about why they choose that t-shirt. Well thankfully, no akward conversations with our CEO Jana Eggers - although it would never be an akward conversation - she is super nice and I know she LOVES to talk…

I’m probably not the first to tell you that Facebook has become ginormous. Perhaps you saw that the average user in the UK spends 3 full days a year on the site (with the “addicts” spending more than a week / year). One of the newer trends with Facebook are the number of (fan) Pages set up by companies, and the number of fans flocking to them. Facebook says that more than 10 million users become fans of Pages each day and ReadWriteWeb tells us that more than 40% of people “friend” brands. A t-shirt blog that we are a big fan of here at You Design It needs your help.  Andy, at Hide Your Arms, is offering a great deal on Threadless gift certificates.  He has some $25 gets certificates to Threadless and he is selling them for $17 each.  The guy needs a new computer, and quite frankly, we want him to make his goal.  We don’t want to imagine the t-shirt blogosphere without Hide Your Arms. . He is raising money to get a new laptop, because his current one is on its last leg.  It is nice when someone is raising money and they are offering a heck of a deal, because too many…

We are proud to announce the launch our new t-shirt videos aggregate site You Design It TV. We recently put the finishing touches on the site and thought there was no better place to make the announcement than the official You Design It blog. The site will be updated often with embedded videos from video sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Blip and more. They will cover a wide array of topics that are all t-shirt related. We hope you can learn, laugh, or be inspired by the videos we are hand-selecting from the web for posting on the site. Please let us know if there are any videos of yours that you…

I would imagine that British readers will be aware of what’s been going on in my home county of Cumbria, but the rest of you probably don’t. Over the past couple of days we’ve experienced the worst floods in my life-time, the picture above shows the scene in the field in front of my house yesterday afternoon, I (and my Dad, who has lived in this valley since the 1950s) have never seen the river burst its banks and start flooding the field. There has even been talk on the TV that on Friday some places around the area had a record amount of rainfall for a 24 hour period in…
  • Rocky, Running by Local Celebrity

    Andy
    20 Nov 2009 | 1:00 am
I will grant you that this is a fairly standard design, there’s not really much to a still from a film and a logo, but there’s something about Rocky that makes me feel like it should just be given a pass, and even though it isn’t the kind of shirt that the ‘t-shirt guy’ should be wearing (being a ‘t-shirt guy’ is a lot like indie music, if everyone understands your shirts, there’s no point wearing them) I like it. Also, I was folding some Local Celebrity tees a couple of days ago and I was amazed at how soft they were and how well they’d…

    Andy
    19 Nov 2009 | 7:00 pm
I don’t know if this is new in the Split Reason store or not, but I do know that it is very, very cool. As you’ve probably guess from the title and this picture, this is a hoodie with gaming controllers printed all over it, and as if that weren’t good enough, the zipper is in the shape of a NES controller! I feel as if every sentence I write about this hoodie could easily be completed with an exclamation mark, which makes me realise just how much of a geek I am! If for some reason you aren’t into this hoodie but want some gamer gear, use the coupon code ANTIGRINCH…
  • It’s What’s On The Outside That Counts by Option-G

    Andy
    19 Nov 2009 | 3:59 pm
You know I’m a child for designs that use negative space, there’s no rational explanation for it, they just do, and for all of those worrying that this tee is really shallow, the outside that Option-G are referring to in this case is not good-looking hotties, but actually out in nature. They’re probably right, but I haven’t stepped out the door of my house since Sunday afternoon (I am writing this on Tuesday, btw), so I’m really not one to make a solid judgement about that. Costiness=$25 Available from Option-G (who’ve just dropped their Fall line, and…

    20 Nov 2009 | 2:07 pm
As Shirt.woot continues its inevitable slide into obsolescence with a derby that has no discernible standards or rules, we here at SingulariTee continue to wish for a mighty turn-around. As horrible as the derbies are, and as wishy-washy as the staff seems to be about making meaningful change at the expense of their broken system, they do occasionally prove where they stand, even if they won't say it. Printing Spaghetti during their recent spate of Editor's Choice picks is proof of this, to us. A shirt that twice was unable to garner very significant votes, on a hard-sell color, put up for…
  • Contest Watch: Week of November 12

    19 Nov 2009 | 7:55 pm
Good evening, folks. We'll be getting to the contest watching in just a second, but first, we'd like to note that Chris Risse's awesome "Icecream From Spaaaaace!" is currently up for votes at Teextile. Those are some super colors on a solid concept, and we'd love to finally see it come to life. While we're at Teextile, we can always chat about Cibasnide, who has garnered most of the recent Contest Watch praise from over there with his weird little characters and his often twisty linework. His latest, Me and My Friends, seems to refine some of this. The piece is less ornamental than some of his…
  • And Your Bird Can Sing

    18 Nov 2009 | 4:58 pm
The other day, blogger was being a temperamental little jerk, so I was unable to tell y'all of the wonderful event which occurred at Tilteed. Namely, Song Bird by Lunchboxbrain, a contest watch favorite, is now available for purchase. It's an exceptional collage-style piece... all the elements flow masterfully in both layout and style, and the color choices are earthy and perfect for the olive blank. When I see it, it also gives a certain Imaginary Foundation feel, for a far discounted price from some of their work. Overall, though, an excellent piece for anyone into music. Grab it now while…
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All

    16 Nov 2009 | 3:07 pm
Excitement comes from the other side of the pond this week, from German site A Better Tomorrow. ABT has some great tees, and were I able to read German, or afford Euros, you would be seeing lots of their stuff up here. As it is, I tend to only mosey over there when I see a tee that is worth the extra effort.Today, they bring us a tee that is certainly that tee: a contest watch favorite from a while back, Againstbound's "Kleptonaut." I don't know if there can be a negative to this shirt: the palette drew me in before I realized my biases toward it. The concept is both spacy and humorous...
  • FM365: Week the First

    15 Nov 2009 | 4:06 pm
This week heralded one of the most exciting happenings in the tee world. No, not a pact to end the proliferation of Live-Traced Photos As Art, but almost as great... the opening of one of the most ambitious single-artist shops out there: Flying Mouse 365.To me, there is one thing that should come tantamount to all things when designing: a sense of drive, determination, and respect for your artistry. You should be creating because you love creating. You should be pushing yourself because art is in your blood. So early in the year, when I first saw Flying Mouse announce his intentions to create…

  • Holebrain’s Redesign, November Designs Part 2, Greg Abbott’s Angry Bear

    16 Nov 2009 | 3:24 pm
That was a mouthful of a title but I had to do it. I was running through the various t-shirt related news sites and I came across some subject matters that were familiar. Basically, the three things that caught my eye were related to previous posts on Color Overload. So let’s all take a trip down memory lane…. It begins with an email I received from one of our fave t-shirt shops – Holebrain – about their site redesign. I have to give it a thumb’s up because it fits well with their overall look and feel. Ript Apparel seems to be getting better with age. I have followed these guys for a while now and some of their latest prints have to be hits. The colors and designs are so compelling… it just looks like they’re getting into a groove. I don’t know when the last time you have checked out their wears, but today’s shirt and a recent print called Campione really caught my eye. Campione’s colors go together beautifully and the “little red riding hood” style goes perfectly. Throw in the standard $10 price from Ript and it’s hard to go wrong. Check it…

As I sat down to prepare the Halloween edition post for Color Overload, I started to think this may be tougher than I thought. With the increasingly popular trend of gruesome designs including zombies and guts, you might think it’s Halloween year-round in our world. With that said, a few things worth mentioning is the autumn pre-holidays so being held at Design By Humans. The tees are starting at $15 and the sale ends midnight Sunday. I couldn’t mention Halloween and gruesome designs without including a few from Emptees. These designs are cool year-round and just feel that much…
  • Holebrain’s New Mini Collection

    Darren
    22 Oct 2009 | 8:35 am
Why do we see the majority of new clothing lines with single color prints on their t-shirts? It’s pretty simple economics…it’s much cheaper. The only problem with that is, a single color design is much harder to sell with people or a high quality multicolor designs in the t-shirt marketplace. With all that said, it is very refreshing to see a line like Holebrain doing the single color print and making it look good. In fact you hardly even notice the lack of color, because the design work so well with the color of the t-shirt. The style is simple and clean/cute. This is how a…

For being a horrible guy, it’s kind of strange how many ways you can combine Mao into other words and phrases, most commonly in ROFLMAO–I think that was one of the first shirts I ever wrote about, from the now defunct Dirty Microbe. Damn, that was a long sentence, and probably a run-on. It’s late though, so who cares? That being said, I like this one way more than ROFLMAO. I think one of the biggest reasons is its Mao with mouse ears, but also messaging acronyms have greatly fallen from my favor. There is nothing not to like about this impressive T-shirt from ThinkGeek, unless perhaps it’s the shipping costs to dear old Blighty that actually doubles the very reasonable price. Who hasn’t always wanted a Electronic Rock Guitar teeshirt? If you say no, you’re lying. And it’s not just a shirt that plays some pre-recorded dreck. Oh no. This T-shirt plays your own live dreck! Major chords are recorded from a real electric guitar, and the included magnetic pick allows you to strum just like you would the real thing. Yes, today’s word is cautionary, and yes, I am using it (expanding my vocabulary in November seems simple enough, given that other mad folk are writing 50,000 word NaNoWriMo novels this month) in my T-shirt post! Noisebot has an uncanny knack of finding the funny in the everyday stuff of the world. This hoodie is no exception – it’s a 50% cotton / 50% polyester blend with screen printed image, it’s got a double-lined hood too, which is always nice when the weather’s bad (when is it not bad in November?) Also it has grommets, which I always thought was a cute clay dog from England,…

Call me prejudiced in favour of my own, but I can’t help feeling that London still has some of the best T-shirt designers around. If I’d seen this tee last week, it would have been my Halloween pick for sure. Look at it – perfect art, brilliant colourwork and something of the dark side about the theme. Formed in 1999 Dephect is two guys who claim to be involved in a variety of alternative scenes but with strong roots in hip-hop. Milk & Eggs Co is a Californian design team who produce T-shirts and buttons. Why buttons? Who knows, but they come in sets of four and are very cute. If your weather is anything like my weather (and I hope it’s not, as my weather is lousy) then the very thought of Cali is worth entertaining – sunshine, sea, laid-backness. And there’s something very laid back about the Milk & Eggs Co style. Leaving aside the infuriating T-shirt that says ‘Dont injure yourself’ without an apostrophe (why?) their work is both crisp and calm, a difficult balancing act to pull off. I’m…

Is it possible to get a well-designed Halloween T-shirt? If you look around, you’ll decide the answer is no. There is so much pumpkin headed, witch on a broomstick style dreck out there that it’s depressing. What is it about major festivals and fun that draws all the lousy designers out of their hiding places to inflict their rubbish on us? Oh yeah, it’s the chance to get our money … how stupid of me. But if you hunt them down, there are good tees out there. I’m impressed by The Horde for three reasons. One, it’s a modern take on the Halloween theme, two, the colourways are…

Linty Fresh returns to TShirt Review! This time with “Tired of the City,” a bright yellow shirt with a very urban looking cityscape.  The special “collector’s card” that comes with the shirt has a nice little poem about how the city smells, is loud, and has nothing left to offer, now that the author’s “person of interest” has moved away.  Overall it is a nice shirt; from the design (I like how the Linty Fresh pipes are woven into the cityscape) to the fabric and feel “Tired of the City” certainly has a lot to offer.  I also feel…

I really dig this Blob shirt, which is the latest Randr release and is created by the always awesome Atomic Child. Randr guys are working on several new things, like shirts pre-sale events and a bunch of new releases, and judging from this blob shirt, I'm so looking forward to that.

  • Lincoln Selleck T-shirt from Fiftyseven-Thirtythree

    Katrina
    19 Nov 2009 | 8:21 pm
I haven't probably dedicated much "ink" on Fiftyseven-Thirtythree, although I do admire their work and artistic approach on t-shirts immensely. In fact, I would certainly wear pretty much everything they sell on their store! Fiftyseven-Thirtythree recently released this Lincoln Selleck shirt that features Abraham Lincoln and Tom Selleck along with the Bay Bridge and Twin peaks (and the Ferrari 308 GTS from Magnum P.I.), and reads "act like ya know". Maybe this is what I was suppose to do, act like I know, but dammit, I don't get this shirt! But come to think of it, these are the people that…

I have no words for these guys over Chop Shop! They just came up with this design that is sure to please all the beard and hair enthusiasts (ok, that didn't sound right). Dapper Men features 141, one hundred and forty one (!), dudes and their hairy heritage! I'm sure even this guy will have trouble figuring out who is who...In other news, Chop Shop's current absolutely free shirt is NerdBot 2.0. Enjoy...*Links in this post are affiliate

This is not that new, but it’s so insane I couldn’t pass up adding it. It’s the “Interactive Portal Shirt from ThinkGeek”.  While it is fake and nerdy as hell, stuff like this does actually exist. So you never really know what’s next. Because I'm prone to longwindedness (see, even that word was long), I'm going to try to make this as short and sweet as possible.  Yes, Shirts on Sale is dead...and it's totally my fault.  Due to certain circumstances in my life (nothing's wrong, don't worry!), we are unable to maintain the high level of quality you've come to expect from our site.  We would rather shutter our doors than offer our awesome community less-than-stellar service. This change has nothing to do with our committed writers and their work.  Ryan and I both agree that the current lineup, our biggest…

These white ravens (if that's what they are) have really taken to this phonograph. Dancing to the beat, all night long. Trust me -- they're smart enough to learn the waltz. Well... maybe not, but they're smart enough to know good music when they hear it.It's a flock thing. And like all flock activity, birdie see birdie do. Two has become three. The new guy flying in is about ready to get his groove on.Where was he before this, you ask? Bugging the hell out of Poe. Croaking, "Nevermore!"If he tries any of that stuff here, he'll get kicked out...or worse...pass it on. We'll be surrounded by…

RIPT rocks its own design today, and we're happy to report that it's lovely.Intricate and highly detailed; edgy and boundary-pushing; a sound and complete concept: these are qualities we've come to expect from designs featured by this unique vendor and today's company-made tee sums it up nicely. You know, we say "Rest in Peace," but we also want the soul to go on. Somewhere, in a new form, on a new journey. Here's hoping, everybody!
  • $10 Shirt.Woot: Sperm Whales Make Great Seamen

    Aleks
    30 Oct 2009 | 9:30 pm
Refreshingly punny after a long month of scare affairs, today's shirt.woot is cute, funny, and great on gray. BootsBoots (which is my favorite artist name for highly personal reasons) has done a rare thing by creating a design good enough to float without the pun. Her whales are honestly adorable, so I'd get the shirt even before I got the joke. We've been a little tough on past designs by BootsBoots, but tonight really turned me around. If it didn't sail over your head and you were totally turned on by it's charm, take this derby winner home today for 10 big ones.

UNDRCRWN have just released some new t-shirts for the Fall/Winter 2009 line this month with one new design and one new colorway. First up is the twist on a classic slogan t-shirt design with “I Used To Love Her” which plays on the good old “I Love NY” design. Lovers of 90’s music would also appreciate the obvious connection and that this could even be an ode to the “Old NY”. The designs are available in basic black or white body with classic contrast prints. Another item to drop is the exclusive version of the Astrodunk t-shirt design. • Designers are their own masters

    28 Oct 2009 | 2:50 am
It’s amazing what a talented designer can do. When it comes to design, everybody has in mind a certain image, but not everybody is able to transpose those things into real images. Here comes the artists’ contribution. A custom design is much more complicated, because the final result must satisfy the client first of all, even if the entire work is done by the designer. I believe the designs are under rated and the designers are considered by some clients like their “personal artists”. Sometimes they just say…”I want you to change that and that and add that there…and if I like…

Paper Root Clothing has released a ton of new tees printed on American Apparel Tri-Blend blanks. American Apparel Tri-Blend tees are some of the softest shirts I’ve worn, they are also a bit more slim fitting. Nonetheless, they feel really good! The new releases from Paper Root has got me really excited. There were a bunch of designs that I really dug, including their Mystical Seahorse tee and the Escape from DC tee (a parody of the Escape From New York/Escape from L.A. movies but featuring Abraham Lincoln as Snake). • Say Hello to: Ms Rachel Bilson

    scribtee
    13 Nov 2009 | 3:33 am
A new tee has come to our store and its hotness has caused Scribtee’s overall temperature to raise by some degrees. Credit for that goes to Rachel Bilson, an actress most commonly known for her role as Summer Roberts  in The O.C. , but also starring in several full length movies. To create this design, artist Kevoe used one of the most beautiful photos there most be of her, gave it a nice rasterized look and added some graffiti in pink. This goes on a comfy AA shirt for men or ladies in the wonderful creme colour (like white, but not as boring). Beauty meets style on the Rachel…

Well, we should acknowledge that DXTRs first score here at Scribtee is a collaboration with French designer Reack. And the design itself is totally American: donuts, bullets, cops & coffee. 21 Nov 2009 | 6:52 am
Paper Root has always had incredible designs, which makes it ever more frustrating for me that they don’t have ladies’ sizes.  Anyway, they’ve released their new winter line along with a new layout for their Big Cartel shop.  All of the new shirts are printed on American Apparel Tri-Blend tees, which are supposedly really comfortable.  The designs, as usual, span a variety of concepts and art styles, and have a great modern, upper-class streetwear look without the gigantic price tag.  All of the new shirts are just $20, which is pretty surprising given the quality of…

  • Exploded Holiday Sale

    20 Nov 2009 | 6:05 am
I could never understand why the Exploded guys insist on running separate domains/sites for everything — it’s horribly disjointed and makes things that much more confusing and inaccessible to customers, but whatever.  They’re holding a holiday sale for an unknown amount of time, and you can view said sale at the appropriate domain.  All shirts are reduced to $15-$16.  A few polos and hoodies are also on sale. As simple as I’d like that to sound, I’m a rather anal online shopper in that I always search as hard as I can for the best deal possible.  That said,…

I’m actually sitting in a lecture right now, but I thought I’d share this interesting article that popped up on my Twitter feed.  In this article, I Am The Trend’s Adam Hendle presents a simple question: just how much should a brand charge for their t-shirts?  He links to a blog post by Dance Party Massacre justifying their $21-$28 prices.  Underneath that, Electric Zombie’s Kyle Crawford comes in with his well-known, passionate opinion that such prices are rip-offs. Personally, being a college student with limited funds, any shirt that costs over $20 will make me…

Most of the shirts at Cotton Factory aren’t of much interest to me — it’s the same old recycled humor/slogan/vintage stuff we’ve seen a million times — but the CF Originals section does offer some appealing designs.  One such design is “So This Is The End My Friend“, which features a brilliant mushroom cloud against a black background.  The placement is excellent and I like the sense of mystery and emotion imparted by the tee’s name — it almost puts you in the perspective of a person witnessing an atomic bomb drop on their home, which…

In the 80s, no actor cut a bigger profile (both figuratively and literally) than Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was the undisputed king of the action-adventure genre, turning out a rapid-fire succession of memorable and rock-solid flicks such as Conan the Barbarian (1982), The Terminator (1984), Commando (1985), and Raw Deal (1986) (the list goes on and on and on…). Of course, everything that goes up must come down (occasionally with a resounding thud), and Arnold was, sadly, no exception. Apropos of nothing in particular, I present a pair of explosive, rim-rocking dunks that are early candidates for flushes of the year… The first features Miami’s D-Wade absolutely posterizing Cleveland’s Anderson Varejao, after a broken play-cum-turnover by LeBron, no less. Our second entry features a rookie, Denver’s Ty Lawson, driving the lane and beating two Laker Faker defenders to the rim. At 5′ 11″, Lawson is giving away nearly a foot to each of them, but with quick ups like that, it doesn’t matter in the least. Take him to the hospital, because…

t-shirt connoisseur's literature tag is looking a little skimpy, let's see if we can do something about that, yes? There's a new tee shirt shop on the web that features stylish designs dedicated to notable personalities -- my favorite author being the subject of one. The shame about the Kurt Vonnegut tee from Robatabrand is that, although filled with subtle nods to the his novels, no one is going to associate it with the man of Slaughterhouse-5 fame. Not that you'd want it to scream Vonnegut, but it hardly whispers it.
